No, there isn't a release date yet. A commentator suggested "two for 2017", and while I hope that the middle book will appear this year, I can certainly promise I will finish writing the trilogy this year.

After the publication of Blade of Empire and Scourge of Fate, however, the future of the World of Obsidian is up in the air, as Tor may not wish to buy any more books in the series. The (hypothetical) trilogy that would follow this one is plotted out and ready to write, and as it deals with the Seven who held Vel-al-Amion, it is a book close to my heart, and I may, absent Tor, have to turn to self-publishing to see it done. The advantage to that is that the story won't be "cut to fit"--Tor demanded I remove more than 2/3 of the manuscript of Crown of Vengeance (1000 pages), and I think the book is poorer for that excision.

And now, if you'll excuse me, I need to sack the Domains of the Western Shore...

Keep going!

Well, it's certainly exciting to hear that the books will be published! For these stories, I can endure the wait. And I must admit that this "hypothetical" trilogy was the one I was really hoping to read someday. I hope that you are able to write them--and write them the way you want. Thank you for your dedication and pursuit to give us these wonderful stories. I am currently writing a novel, and I can say with utmost honesty that your writing voice and style has inspired me more than most others authors. Hope that you're well.

What a coincidence! I just finished Crown of Vengeance today, and go looking for the next part to stumble upon a post made the same day saying it would be coming and not never finished.

If you go to self-publishing you think you might release an "uncut" version of at least this trilogy?

Would love to see the full book! Even if it takes crowd-sourcing to raise the funds to see it published. While reading it, I felt like there were so many stories that were missing, even though it was wondrous tale...just so much in just one book!

Please (*sheepish grin*), could you remind me what Vel-al-Amion is? I feel kind of bad for not knowing. Was it mentioned in another book and I just forgot? Anyways, I would appreciate it if you could please refresh my memory on that particular subject. :)

I just went back and re-read the Outstretched Shadow again. I now know what Vel-al-Amion is. I can't wait for this next series to come out. It's about the war between the events in the Dragon Prophecy and the Obsidian Trilogy, the second time the Endarkened tried to take over the land. Ever since I read the Obsidian Trilogy, I've been wanting to know more about that story, and of the seven who fought back an entire Endarkened army! I can't wait!

I'm so glad to hear this! My sister and I have loved the Obsidian universe very dearly from the first trilogy.
Mostly I am glad to hear from you! It had been so long, we were both worrying that something might have happened to you. Keep writing! And if you do intend to self publish I can name two people who would support a crowdfunding drive to help you with that!

I too was worried about James and second the notion that crowd-funding might be a good way to get the support for self-publishing. I've helped a couple on Kickstarter and am very happy with the results of that.

James: I hope you can find the time to continue to converse with us here, I think many of us are so appreciative of the world you've created that it's created a bond between not just your writings and us but with you as well. Obviously we care greatly for your well being and hope the best for you in the future. I'm so looking forward to Tor dropping the rights so we can get the complete versions of the stories we love so much. I really felt like the previous trilogy was seriously truncated and so much was missing. It was out of place given the original trilogy and I'm glad to hear you at least want to share the missing information with us.

Thank you for the update! Can't wait to read the rest of the trilogy. It's a shame Tor is cutting into the story so much and hope to one day read the intended versions. I hope your write the next trilogy as well. The world you have created is wonderful. I really think the Obsidian Trilogy would make a great movie as well! Be true to your story and please keep writing!

Making Movies

I remember Mercedes once saying that she didn't think her novels would make good movies and for most of them I would agree with her. That being said, I believe that the Obsidian universe and it's various histories would make and excellent transfer to either the cinema or television medium. Perhaps as a replacement for Game of Thrones when it finishes it's run? :)

I would love to see you self publish this! It seems to be as if its all you even though Misty's name is on it right? An uncut crown of vengeance would be worth a third purchase and a reread. I've been avoiding rereading this one because there's no conclusion.

The first series definitely needs a tv series (or movies) and you need to maintain a presence on facebook.

I am so excited to read the rest of the trilogy. I have been waiting a long time. And as far as the 2/3rds go, if you are going to self publish anyway, I would like to read the rest of your vision. Unless that breaks some contract or something, of course.

Any update on Blade of Empire release date? By the way, I loved the excerpts.

The next book in the "Dragon Prophecy" series is Blade of Empire. It will be published by Tor Books on October 24, 2017.
