The Merlinscribe in-box is now empty: if you have commented in the last several weeks and do not see an answer, drop me a line and I'll try to figure out what happened.
It's noted subtly throughout the books that the constant wars between the Elven houses, and their culture, resulted in early deaths being the norm. That's what they mean by peace and long lives / longevity. Longevity as a result of the peace they earned.
As for Savilla / Uralesse / Virulion, it's entirely possible that Virulion died early on in the war before Savilla was fully grown and learned of her true parentage. But it's also possible that she thought of Uralesse as her adopted father because he was the one who showed her the ways of being Endarkened, etc. You know what I mean.
Certainly it is true that the majority of the Elves did not live out their "natural" lifespans, due to war and vendetta and other similar extreme sports. And that, too, was related to caste: imagine being a Landbond, and your great-great-grandchildren are still serving the same War Prince you did, with you dead around the age of 40.
I am fairly sure that the Lightborn have-or-had the longest comparative lifespan. Which is only one of the many reasons most people don't like them.
(I do indeed know what you mean re: Savila / Uralesse / Virulion. Indeed I do.)
The next book in the "Dragon Prophecy" series is DELIVERANCE OF DRAGONS. Its publication date is 5/27/2025.
To see deleted scenes, background material, and anything else I happen to think of posting, go to merlinscribe_library It's read only, so come back here to comment.
