Does anyone remember offhand what the Elvish for "volcano" is before I have to spend half a day searching for it?

Also, somewhere in Book 1 (I think) is an explanation of how Lightborn learn Magery, and I would like to find the exact wording. It goes something like "they learn the spell by perceiving it (in the mind of another Lightborn?) and thereafter know the spell and thus can cast it". This explains why there are so many incompetent Lightborn out there.

The term Saravasse uses in Chapter 8 of The Phoenix Transformed is "tehukohiakhazarishtial," which everyone else shortens to "tehuko."

As for the second piece of info, if it is in Crown of Vengeance, it's probably on pages 100-101 of the hardcover.

Anonymous got me curious and I dug out my Crown hardcover. Sure enough on page 101 "Spells could not be written down, nor could the knowing of them be spoken into the ear. The shapes of the Greater Spells could only be passed mind to mind, so that any Lightborn who wove and crafted a new spell must come to the Sanctuary to pass it to as many other Lightborn as possible."

Anonymous deserves the credit for identifying the page number.

I decided to look at To Light a Candle for dragon size. Ancaladar has the head of a small boat and eyes the size of melons but my quick scan caught nothing else related to his size. So maybe the poll is a good idea.

After Idalia Summons the Starry Hunt in Chapter 13 of When Darkness Falls, she, Jermayan and Ancaladar make a brief stop in Windalorianan, where the dragon is said to take up the entire width of the street he waits in while Jermayan and Idalia have tea. (Beyond that, I couldn't find any references in The Obsidian Trilogy. I did notice quite a few references to Ancaladar sinking into the unusually deep snow, which probably didn't help other characters with comparisons.)

As for The Enduring Flame, there are a few references I can think of off the top of my head. On p. 388 of Endangered, Tiercel asks Ancaladar for help seeing carvings that (according to Harrier) are "at least a hundred feet above Tiercel's head." In Transformed, Saravasse is said to be "two-thirds the size of Ancaladar" when Tiercel first sees her. Later, on p. 316 of that same book, we see her put her head into an Isvaieni tent and talk to Tiercel. On p. 394, the wall Bisochim creates at Sapthiruk is "taller than a dozen tall men," and on p. 406 Saravasse looks over it. Presumably she had her forelegs propped on it, because on the last page of that chapter, she launches herself onto the top "like a very large and improbably scaled cat."

Forthcoming:

The next book in the "Dragon Prophecy" series is DELIVERANCE OF DRAGONS. Its publication date is 5/27/2025.
